Business Ventures in Ellesmere Port

19 of our A Level business studies students visited a leading outdoor clothing manufacturer's new warehouse in Cheshire on Wednesday 29 January.

The Year 12 students toured the Regatta site in Ellesmere Port, met key members of site staff and then took part in a recruitment assessment centre.

Their teamwork and problem solving skills were tested first in a Lego task (they had to build a car), the boys then had to complete a series of timed psychometric, numeracy and literacy tests.

Finally, they carried out peer-to-peer interviews for a real role in the company which will contribute to their final mark for their coursework.

At the end of the day Regatta's HR Manager Jo Radcliffe, commented on some of the high scores that students had achieved!

Their teacher Mrs Stanton said: "This was a very valuable experience, the boys did us proud and I'd like to thank Regatta for having us."

Regatta is a family-owned outdoor clothing and footwear brand, it was established in 1981 and the company's HQ is in Manchester. They export worldwide.

Bible Quote

“Praise the Lord because he is good.  His faithful love will last forever.”
Psalm 136:1

Word of the Week

Machiavellian (adjective)

Subject which uses this term: English Literature; Drama; History; Politics

Meaning: cunning, scheming, and unscrupulous.

For example: ‘Mrs Lyons is Machiavellian. She manipulates Mrs Johnstone into giving up her baby. She uses Mrs Johnstone’s superstitious nature to ensure she gets what she wants.’

MRS. LYONS: You do know what they say about twins, secretly parted, don’t you?

MRS. LYONS: They say…they say that if either twin learns that he once was a pair, that they shall both immediately die. It means, Mrs. Johnstone, that these brothers shall grow up, unaware of the other’s existence. They shall be raised apart and never, ever told what was once the truth. You won’t tell anyone about this, Mrs. Johnstone, because if you do, you will kill them."

Thought for the Week

"Don't be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people."
