A 'Great' Achievement
One of our business studies teachers recently completed her first Great North Run in Newcastle to raise funds for a fantastic local cause.
Mrs Stanton only started running last summer but she has completed four 10km runs, including the Manchester 10K and the Liverpool Tunnel 10k, in the last 12 months. She decided to up her game and entered the general ballot for The Great North Run at the start of the year. She discovered she had a place in February.
Mrs Stanton said: "I decided to run in aid of the Royal Blind School in Wavertree as my friend's son attends it. Thanks to the generosity and kindness of my friends, family and colleagues at Cardinal Heenan I am very pleased to say I raised well over £1000 for this wonderful cause."
She continued: "The encouragement and support from everyone at the school in the run up to the event and the help from my husband on the day got me through it. The event showcased the best in human nature, from the volunteers who looked after us to the spectators who cheered us on through the tough parts. It was a fantastic experience and I would say if I can do it anyone can!"
The Great North Run is now the second largest half marathon in the world.
Other notable competitors this year included Olympian Mo Farrah, presenter Jenni Falkner, newsreaders Sophie Raworth and Suzanna Reid and singer Joe McEldrry.
She concluded: "I can't say now if I'd do another half marathon, ask me again in two weeks, I have however signed up for a triathlon next year though!"
Well done Mrs Stanton from all of us here at Cardinal Heenan!
