All behind Cardinal Heenan for the Final!

Cardinal Heenan's Year 7 football team will represent England in the Danone Nations Cup at Wembley on Saturday 7 September after an absolutely stunning performance at St George's Park in Stafford in June.

The Cup is the biggest global football tournament for children aged 10 to 12 - over 2.5 million young players from 32 countries took part in it this year.

The boys who will represent England are Ethan Sansbury Maddox, Sam Clarke, Tom Williams, Jack Heard, Sonny Hilton, Patrick Haskell, Luca Connell, Bobby Duncan and Ellis Jones. As this is a 9-a-side tournament in squads of 12 we will be joined by three boys from Emerson School in London.

The team have been training hard over the summer - Danone ambassadors Paul and Tom Ince visited our school at the end of term to offer some tips and tactics.

In August the boys travelled to Wembley for the draw and also took part in a training camp in Derby to ensure they are on top form for the final where they will face Russia, Belarus and Algeria in Group B.

It is the first time the final has taken place in the UK, making it an important moment for the home team.

Mr Forgie the team manager said: "Our training is going well, it's a truly wonderful experience for the boys that seems only to be getting better."

Spectators on Saturday 7 September will enjoy a special performance by Diversity and experience a host of entertainment ranging from face painting, freestyler football demonstrations and interactive games for the whole family.

Come on England!
