Sixth Formers Raise £1000 for Hospice

Since the introduction of A-Level Physical Education onto the school curriculum two years ago the course has gone from strength to strength.

2012/13 was the first year we had two cohorts running concurrently and our learners are achieving excellence in all aspects of the course.

As part of the practical element of their studies the students needed to provide video footage of them in action to the exam board, the groups therefore decided to go the extra mile and not only complete this task but do something inspiring for a charity close to their hearts by raising funds for Woodlands Hospice (who provide, amazing care and support).

The 6th form boys decided they would play a charity football game. This would be a two-legged final with the winner taking the cup.

Mr Sewill said: "The game was played in great, spirit and as a teacher I am very proud of this group of young men. They have been a pleasure to teach and this final gesture before they leave Cardinal Heenan for university shows what loyal, caring young men they have become. The A2 students went on to lift the trophy and now have the title of A-Level PE champions. However, I must pay tribute to both teams as it was a truly amazing display of sports talent, dignity and respect."

In total, between Mr Sewill running a half marathon and the football game, Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School has managed to raise £1000 for Woodlands Hospice and at the same time achieve a gold leaf in memory of a truly inspirational gentleman Tony Barton, who sadly passed away this year. Tony did so much for charities all over the city everyone felt it would be fitting tribute to him.

Congratulations to you all, a great effort for a great cause.
