Year 9 Rugby Team Progress to Semi-Finals
Our Year 9 Rugby team progressed to the semi-finals of the Lancashire Schools trophy on Friday for the first time in our school's history!
Playing away against Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, the team was 24-5 down at half time but came back to score an amazing 26 points in the second half and win the game 29-31.
Mr Townson said, "After a good half time discussion, the whole team made a colossal improvement and simply blew away the opposition! They could not cope with the physicality and power from our boys, who improved their tackling and played some really powerful rugby".
Led by captain Matthew Rabbette, who kicked four conversions in an outstanding performance, the whole team fought hard to claim the result. Kristan Swale who, along with Jay Jay Leather was making his debut, scored his first try and Joe Brindle scored another fantastic try after running through most of the opposition!
Credit is also due to Vice Captain, Conor Glorman, who scored the match winning try. He ended a strong, powerful run by putting the ball down under the posts and Matthew Rabbette then converted to clinch victory with only one minute left.
Congratulations to the boys, Mr Townson and everyone who has helped Year 9 throughout the tournament. The result takes them into the semi-finals, where they will face the reigning champions, St Margaret's Academy.
“Praise the Lord because he is good. His faithful love will last forever.”
