Tom Takes Shakespeare on Tour

Shakespeare's comedy Twelfth Night became serious business for sixth former Tom Whittaker as he joined a professional company's tour of the play.

Tom, and PurpleCoat Productions, performed the play across the UK and Ireland in a hectic week of performances. He is one of our bright talents, having achieved ABB in AS Drama, AS English Literature and AS Media while working with professional drama productions.

Tom said: "I was granted the first week of Sixth Form off to go on tour around the UK and Ireland with a professional acting company performing Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.

"Over the week I visited numerous cities including Dublin, Birmingham, Stratford, Liverpool and London, performing in professional theatres across Britain and Ireland.

"Now a part of the company, we have many more projects like this one lined up for the future."

Tom may hope to follow in the footsteps of other Cardinal Heenan students who have enjoyed success as an actor, with the eighth Dr Who, Paul McGann, and Ian Hart, who appeared in the Harry Potter movies, among our alumni.

Bible Quote

“Praise the Lord because he is good.  His faithful love will last forever.”
Psalm 136:1

Word of the Week

Machiavellian (adjective)

Subject which uses this term: English Literature; Drama; History; Politics

Meaning: cunning, scheming, and unscrupulous.

For example: ‘Mrs Lyons is Machiavellian. She manipulates Mrs Johnstone into giving up her baby. She uses Mrs Johnstone’s superstitious nature to ensure she gets what she wants.’

MRS. LYONS: You do know what they say about twins, secretly parted, don’t you?

MRS. JOHNSTONE: What? What?

MRS. LYONS: They say…they say that if either twin learns that he once was a pair, that they shall both immediately die. It means, Mrs. Johnstone, that these brothers shall grow up, unaware of the other’s existence. They shall be raised apart and never, ever told what was once the truth. You won’t tell anyone about this, Mrs. Johnstone, because if you do, you will kill them."
