Summer School Success
More than 200 boys have taken part in our summer school to introduce them to our school ahead of them joining Year 7 next month.
Ten days' of lessons and activities have seen the boys get used to the structure of the school day, the facilities and most importantly our expectations and ethos.
Mr Sewill, who ran the summer school with 17 staff, said it has been the most successful ever.
"We had more than 200 boys registered for the programme - the most we have ever had - and all of them have attended," he said.
"Not only do the students now feel confident and comfortable about coming to Cardinal Heenan, but speaking to lots of their parents I know they have got peace of mind about what's to come.
"The boys are coming from 50 different primary schools, which makes it essential that we help them to make a smooth transition because some boys don't know anyone here."
The fortnight has been much more than just getting the new students familiar with their surroundings and classmates.
"There has been a really good, purposeful mix of activities. They have done assault courses, archery, BMX ramps, orienteering, used the gym and 3G pitches.
"This year we have structured it so that they really experience the school, including all subject areas, the timings of the day, the school prayer. They know what to expect, and what we expect from them, when they start in September."
“Everything that breathes, praise the Lord!”
