Year 9 Footballers Win the Liverpool Cup
Cardinal Heenan's Year 9 team won the Liverpool Cup with a nail-biting win on penalties over Broadgreen International School at Liverpool Soccer Centre.
A last-second free-kick by Callum Lucy made it 1-1 to take the game into extra-time, and in extra-time he again equalised, this time getting on the end of a Joe Wright cross with minutes to go.
With the game going to penalties, the five Cardinal Heenan penalty-takers - Kevin Cringle, Callum Lucy, Lewis Reilly, Joe Wright and Tom Grivosti - all scored. Goalkeeper Michael Hall also had a hand in the penalty shoot-out heroics, saving a Broadgreen penalty, to give Cardinal Heenan a 5-3 win.
They will now play the winners of the Merseyside County Schools Cup, Range High, in the prestigious Echo Cup Final at Goodison Park on Tuesday, April 30, kick-off 6pm. Tickets are available from the PE office, priced £3 for adults and £1 for children.
